Cause me to understand the way of your precepts, that I may meditate on your wonderful deeds. Psalm 119:27
For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. You have done a foolish thing, and from now on you will be at war. 2 Chronicles 16:9Spending time with God will equip you for your day and what is to come. Spending time with Him means to really focus your attention and not let the distractions of the world overwhelm you. When we are spending time with God it needs to be uninterrupted so that we can reap the full benefit of it.
There have been many mornings where I get up and go to my designated spot (the rocking chair between my two corner windows) and I grab my Bible and my devotional book and I sit. I begin to pray and find myself thinking of all the things I need to get done. I am trying to pray but my mind is overwhelmed with "to-do" lists and worries of the day. I have to first notice I'm distracted and then I purposefully set my mind on God.
What I mean by that is in my mind's eye I actually picture Jesus's face. I picture Him in my mind and I speak to Him. I really focus and I ask Him to keep me focused. I ask that He takes the distractions away. When I do this I feel like I've been brought back to the present. I have a fresh new start on my time with Him. He bring me back and we are distraction free!
Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. Hebrews 13:15
