Gold or God?

This blog post is based off of Exodus 32:1-35 from the "New Women's Devotional Bible".

The story of the Israelites and the Golden Calf is on that many of us know. We remember it as the one when the Israelites worshipped an idol and Moses broke the 10 Commandments. At this time, their idol was made from gold jewelry and they actually bowed down and worshipped it. Now, today we have created idols of our very own. We may not have intentionally fashioned them and bowed down to them, but we have allowed them to become great in our lives - greater than God.

When I look around at this world I see many idols such as cars, homes, fashion, cell phones or other technology,  movie stars or other celebrities. I see people who have their dreams for the future as idols, or maybe their children. Idols surround us today.

I know that I am guilty of putting things, ideas, and people before God. I have big dreams for my future and I enjoy planning and dreaming about it. At times, this does seem to get in the way of my eyes being directed on God. If I truly was putting Him first, I would be trusting Him and focusing on how He would shape my future.

Today I would like to focus on God. I don't want to worship anything unworthy; anything of this world. I want to worship Jesus and show Him that I love Him more than any other item, idea, or person in my life.
